Optimizing my library...
Some steps I took to optimize my Immerive Library were as follows:
1.) I reduced the overall number of primitives by rebuilding an entirely new platform. This became an attractive option once I learned how to upload my own custom textures.
2.) Making my images clickable without using an embedded web browser saved some processing power within the virtual realm.
3.) Rather than use the "Content Tools" to import actual video files I used the "Web Content" function under the primitives editor in "Builds Tools." This essentially turned a thin cube shape into its own interactive web page within the world. This saves huge bandwidth compared to other video import options
4.) I removed any duplicate layers that I built accidentally when first starting. I also changed water effects to "simple."
5.) In order to provide access to the "5 PDFs" step, and the "10 additional content elements" step, I imported two traditional web browser pop ups that linked to specific posts on my blog. Users can now access the papers and videos associated through an external browser, rather than having to import them into my virtual world and bog everything down.
These 4 screenshots show how I was testing my own realm's FPS as well as three other classmate's virtual libraries. |
